There is apparently a way to get Bitcoin from the land to Mars as little as three minutes using already available technology. We just need someone, or something, to receive them.
At the end of last month, the entrepreneur of technology Jose E. Puente and his colleague, Carlos Puente, published a white article revealing a expression of proof of transit – a concept he said to Cintelelegraph is the missing piece necessary to make interplanetary bitcoin.
The concept suggests that when a Bitcoin user wishes to send a payment to Mars in the future, the transaction could jump from the user through different stations, such as the grounds on the ground, satellites or even a relay around the moon.
With each stop, the transaction is “stamped” before continuing until it reaches its destination.
Addressing Cointelegraph, Puente said that Pott serves as a “reception layer” on Bitcoin and the Lightning network while taking advantage of the optical ties built by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, Elon Musk of Elon Musk, or another satellite supplier.
“The technology is essentially ready. As there is a stable Terre-Mars link, Pott can roll on top, making Bitcoin the first currency to operate properly on the planets,” he said.
“By simulating delays in March, we could execute a convincing end -to -end demo at the moment.”
When operational, Puente said that Bitcoin lightning transfers could reach Mars as little as three minutes, or up to 22 minutes in the worst case.
Addressing the two -week error period on March which occurs every 26 months approximately, Puente said that a solution could “deliberately move around the sun with relay satellites” to avoid the power failure.
Pott is like an ordinary bitcoin horoditing, except that it can extend to space and beyond, explained Puente.
“Imagine that it is 2050 and that you send land money to your friend on Mars to help pay their rent. Because the planets are so distant, the message must go through different stations.”
“With each stop, this station holds the message with the time it has arrived and the time it has left, like a passport stamped with each border crossing.
Puente said Pott could be tested today.
Bitcoin has already reached space
The concept is based on Blockstream’s work in December 2018, when it connected Bitcoin to five satellites to make Bitcoin transactions possible. Then, in August 2020, Spacechain completed what he said that the first Bitcoin transaction of the international space station, presenting that Bitcoin (BTC), can be received from the earth.

Of course, for a Bitcoin transaction to occur on Mars, a human – or an AI – should be there, and that has not yet happened. Only Landers, Orbiters and Rovers of NASA and other space agencies have explored Mars so far.
Someone should also be ready to accept Bitcoin. The blue origin based on Jeff Bezos began to accept the crypto – notably bitcoin, ether (ETH), Solana (soil) and stablescoins Tether (USDT) and USDC (USDC) – last month, but so far, they have only exceeded the Kármán line, about 100 kilometers from the earth.
Musk also applies that standard money is necessary
Musk’s SpaceX seeks to reach Mars by the end of 2026 with a long -term ambition to build an autonomous city there.
Like Puente, Musk agrees that a standard money is necessary to transform between Earth and Mars. He previously expressed his concern concerning the 10 minutes of Bitcoin blocks, but this is where the Lightning network comes into play, said Puente.

After initially rejected Bitcoin as a solution last January, he finally agreed that interplanetary payments could be more feasible through the Lightning Network.

“If we are serious about a multi-planet civilization, we need an open and neutral monetary base which does not depend on a single company, government or sol station,” said Puente, arguing its arguments for Bitcoin as the most appropriate interplanetary currency.
“This is why we focused on Bitcoin as a shared and designed Pott standard as a practical means of moving the value over vast distances while preserving responsibility and the individual agency.”
Pott is designed for all planets
Puente noted that Pott was built to be agnostic to the planet in the habitable area of a star, which means that the “travel receipts” that it generates could be reached from the transactions sent to the Moon or to any other planet.
He said research was focused on earth and March because it is “the most clean case study”.
